When Stephen Kozan made his author visit to my school, I had no idea at the time how it would help make my dream of being an author come true. He talked to us about his journey, from the dreaming stage at a very young age, to the successful author he is today.
During his visit, we were given the option to meet him one-on-one if we wanted to. Of course, I jumped at the chance! I thought it was awesome to meet a famous author. That made my desire to become one even stronger! He told us he was looking for one lucky kid to be the writer of their own book. When he asked us all to send in a poem or story for him to review, I was very excited. He made it clear to us that with a little bit of effort, anybody could win. So, along with many others, I did just that. Sometime later, I received a letter from Stephen saying that I was one of three finalists that had been chosen. He then requested that each of us send in a synopsis about what our story or poem was about. So of course, I, along with the others, sent in my synopsis. Looking back, I think that was the best thing I’ve ever done, because I was the lucky chosen kid!
I decided my book was going to be a poetry book. Stephen Kozan and ReadyAimWrite Kids, LLC has been amazing to work with. They even let me do the illustrations for my poetry book. His encouraging words, along with the editors, pushed me to do my best, and made me feel more confident in my writing abilities. Sometimes, I feel like I’m still in a dream and I need to pinch myself to see if this is real. Ouch! It’s REAL!!
